Infrared thermography in association with indirect calorimetry: a new methodology for diagnosis and follow-up of subclinical hypothyroidism

Infrared Thermography (IT) is a non-invasive method and complementary to other diagnostic techniques to identify inhomogeneity of the thermal emission of the skin. We used IT (InfRec R500, Nippon Avionics Co.; 640×480 pixel, spatial resolution 0,87 mrad, sensitivity 0.03°C at 30°C, accuracy ±1°C) to assess the variations of skin temperature of the neck region: higher mean temperature, greater thyroid function.
